Potty Training is for the BIRDS.

Really! If we were birds how much easier would this process be? Just fly along and let loose on some unsuspecting punter's head.

This has to be the most challenging aspect of motherhood so far (cue experienced mothers with older kids and their knowing peals of laughter here. I know there are worse things than this ahead - too scared to think of those yet).

I have a two and a half year old who is so far resistant to all and any approaches I take. I've tried praise, rewards, blatent bribery and shameless pleading - no major progress so far and we've been at this give or take, 6 months. If I had a dollar for every mom stating 'oh really you're having problems? - gosh it just 'clicked' with my kid' I'd be a rich lady by now. I'm ready for some serious 'clicking' in our house right now.

It's driving me nuts. Growing up I often heard my Dad state that insanity was hereditary, you get it from your kids - stuff like this makes me realise how right is he is!

Here's hoping she gets there soon though, my mental health, and the carpet, depend on it.

Thanks for commenting on my blog!

I don't care how easily a kid 'clicks' with potty training. Potty training sucks. But, an older friend of mine (think kind grandmother type who bakes the best cookies in the world) told me, "He won't be wearing diapers when he graduates from college. He'll figure it out. They all do."

Good luck.

I am a huge believer in the "wait until they're ready" approach. With CJ, we tried and tried and tried (failing ever time). Finally I said ENOUGH and we stopped trying. Then, when he was 3 1/2, we tried again. And he was ready! He potty-trained in 2 days and hasn't had an accident since; he even gets up during the night to go. It's hard when everyone around thinks they know what's best, but I've talked to a lot of moms who say that boys just train late. So, that's my 2 cents! Good luck!

Thanks for visiting me In the Trenches! I'll be back. Good luck with the pottytraining. I have to say, since my Eldest is only 5-1/2, so far, potty-training has been the WORST thing to do. I have 2 down, only 1 to go though!

Potty training is the WORST! I know how frustrating it can be, believe me. I know it doesn't seem like your daughter will catch on, but she will! Feel free to vent anytime.

You can vent away all you want to me too. My son is now 3 and 1 month and we've gone through at least 4 periods where I was convinced that this time he'd potty train for sure. He starts out all gung-ho, and then loses interest very quickly.

Now it's become a power struggle, so he's in pull-ups until he decides he's ready. It's killing us, though.

It's the worst!
