More 'Fascinating' Facts

I've been tagged by Lady Macleod to complete this seven facts meme. I know I've been doing a lot of meme's lately, but since my computer has been hijacked most days by our visitors who are apparently addicted to Bebo, this meme is just what I need to get a wee blog post out and make sure nobody forgets about me!

So here goes with 7 facts about moi!

1. Potty training truly makes me feel like a complete failure as a mother. And I am terrified because it's my daughter I'm training first, and everyone says boys are harder to train. What? Harder than this? We're knocking on almost a year of stopping and starting with the potty training. She'll be 3 in October, at this rate I'll be potty training both kids at the same time! I know people recommend waiting 'til they're ready, but seriously - she should be ready about now!

2. My family read my blog, but never comment on it. So, maybe they are just maintaining distance, or they're just humouring me with the 'that's nice dear' attitude, or, they're bored to the point of having nothing to say! My in-laws don't know this blog exists. That's the way I'd like it to stay.

3. I'm struggling with this list because my mind is full of other stuff I wish I could blog about but can't because even though my in-laws don't know this blog exists, I'm too chicken to take the chance that they may stumble across it at some point. A real possibility exists that they may stumble across it considering that one of them is staying here for 5 weeks! Of course admitting that I have 'stuff' to blog about that involves in-laws, if they do come across the blog and read this, well I'll just be in trouble anyway ha ha!

4. 'Celebrities' I have seen include Joan Rivers outside Madame Toussaud's on 42nd Street in NYC, 'Sinbad' from Brookside at Glasgow Airport (only UK and Ireland readers will know who this is, sorry!) and John Bruton (former Irish Taoisach/Prime Minister) while waiting to board our US flight at Dublin Airport last month.

5. I love listening to Ladysmith Black Mambazo and have recently started searching for songs of theirs on the internet since I forgot to dig out the cd I had when I was back at home in Ireland. I've seen them in concert and they are a fun group to hear and see. Their version of 'Nkosi sikelel iafrika', the South African National Anthem is a delight to hear. Their harmonies, and the tone of their voices give me goose pimples. I also think I remember my Dad saying that the students at his school in Zambia(which despite many of my friends' assumptions to the contrary, is not part of South Africa) sang this - not sure, but I'm sure he'll correct me if I'm wrong.

6. I am eligible to apply for US citizenship soon but don't know exactly when. I should find out to see if I can get it through before November 2008 so that I can VOTE! You know, my wee vote could make all the difference, especially in Florida!

7. I cannot stand 'Westerns' as in Clint Eastwood, John Wayne type movies. This deep rooted hatred of this genre was cemented yesterday when Hubby and his future Brother-in-Law sat and watched 'The Good, the Bad and the Ugly' for what felt like hours! We got a reprieve while we all ate dinner, only for it to be switched back on again so they could watch the remainder. The mere sound of that 'doodle doodle dooooo, do-do-do' music is enough to give me the chills! BLEUGH!

Once again - feel free to say I tagged you if you're running low on blogging steam and you want to do this meme!

You'll get the potty training... try not to stress it. It just takes some kids longer. And my family reads my blog but doesn't comment too... what's WITH that??

Ooo...sounds like I've got some new music to try. =)

Regarding in-laws? Don't forget they have in-laws of their own, and will probably just chuckle if they ever read this post. Unless they're crazy psychotic kind of in-laws, and then you're hooped either way. =P

Regarding potty training? My daughter turned three recently and hasn't even started yet!

Yeah for citizenship!!! Good for you to already be thinking about voting!

You're making me skeered to potty train!

I have sucessfully potty trained my 3 1/2 year old as of 2 weeks ago!!! Whoo-hoo! I must thank Good Woman for that, though because I got the idea from her. She was using clouds to help her girl understand the length of days before Grandma came to visit. She had 5 clouds on a paper and 1 cloud represented 1 day. Color in a cloud a day... and so on. I adapted that and drew 10 ballons and made copies. Told Middle to color in 1 ballon every time she uses the potty. When all 10 were colored, I'd give her $1 and she could buy what she wanted at the Dollar store. She didnt even finish the 2nd page before she was using the potty on a regular basis!!! Whoo-hoo! I gave her $5 to spend and no more pull-ups!
Maybe it'll work for you??

Potty training my oldest (a girl) was much harder than potty training her little brother. She STILL has more "accidents" than he does. Weird, I know. But true, in my case.

I AM a potty-training failure! My youngest son is three and a half and refuses to go anywhere near a toilet.

Jenny, Thank you! I may just try that - we have a reward sticker system and that lasted about 2 days because Miss E is a sticker fiend and she got at them and went nuts sticking green stars everywhere! Your's and the Good Woman's system may be a better option!

Jennifer, voting in my view is one of the MAJOR benefits of citizenship and it drives me CRAZY that citizens of any country don't exercise their right to vote.

I turned the potty training into a post. I also linked Good Woman's post on there. I re-read her post and she used balloons.. so I don't know why I kept thinking clouds... but anyway-- it really works! Hope it'll do for yours.

You don't like westerns? I suppose we can be friends away... you do like "The Dirty Dozen" right? Ask the hubby, he'll know :-)

great list, really fun. oops about the in-laws, don't worry so much about the potty you'll make both of you bonkers!

You'll be addicted to bebo too in no time just wait and see!!
I thought leaving comments was mostly for other people who have blogs! And saying I don't have one, I guess I just figured I was some kind of blog stalker and not really part of the chat surrounding it! But now that you've mentioned it expect more family comments!!

Ha Sarah! I won't be addicted to Bebo - I am about 12 years too old for it :) And the only people I know on it are you, and the cousins, so I can just as easily keep up with you all by email :)

My daughter (see my head steam) is 3 and a half. And by a half. I mean 3/4. Grrr. and stilllll shows NO interest. I went from relaxed attitude, to hunker down inside for 5 days and only do that, to "oh the dr. says it'll happen whenit happens." To utter panic. To exasperation. To I give up. Where I am now.

I feel your pain.

I thought I'd never get there with potty-training my son. But then we did. Good luck on getting your citizenship. And vote, please.

i remember when my friend pam was potty-training her son. she had a big bowl of m&ms on the table that were meant to be his reward for doing it you know where.... but she had to keep buying more because, of course, she kept eating the m&ms.

he was WAY older than 3, let me tell you. i remember after he finally "got it" he was probably 4 years old and i was sitting in her living room chatting with her when he came flying past us hollering urgently, 'STINK BOMB A COMING! STINK BOMB A COMING!" and dashed into the bathroom and slammed the door.

anyway, do NOT worry. they ALL get toilet trained eventually!
